A guide to Oil Pulling – and why you should use it for Oral Cleansing

You may not know this, but one of the first things you should do every morning is undertake an oral detox. During the previous night’s sleep, our bodily organs emit toxins, which are often expunged from the body when we go to the toilet. However, we take toxins back into the body during eating and drinking breakfast, and oil pulling is the simplest way to remove these toxins.

Whilst we may think brushing our teeth is all we need to do for oral cleansing, the reality is that oil pulling is far more efficient routine to undertake.

What is oil pulling?

Oil pulling is derived from traditional Indian and Tibetan Ayurvedic medicine from over 3,000 years ago, so it’s a type of oral cleansing that has certainly stood the test of time.

Oil pulling simply means a form of oral detox that works by removing oil from the gums and teeth, and thus removing toxins.

Although there are different methods of oil pulling, Vegan Tooth Oil seems to efficiently provide the most health benefits. Oil pulling works by removing bacteria from the oral cavity – mouth, teeth and gums – by being attracted to tooth oil – hence ‘oil pulling’ – as it swishes around. In a similar way to mouthwash, saliva combines with the tooth oil to form a solution that provides an effective oral detox.

Benefits of oil pulling

In addition to an oral detox, oil pulling not only pulls toxins from the oral cavity but also can improve detoxification of the body as a whole.

This works by encouraging the body to shed toxins once it becomes aware that oil pulling is removing the toxins via the oral cavity, and this provides a ‘exit strategy for the remainder of the body’s toxins.

So it’s not just oral cleansing that oil pulling is beneficial for, but also all-round body detox and improving health and wellbeing.

In addition to these benefits, users of oil pulling report improvements in teeth whitening and reduction in oral problems such as gingivitis, halitosis (bad breath), gum problems and tooth sensitivity.

How oil pulling easily fits into our daily routine

In addition to cleansing our body through visiting the bathroom and showering, we can simply add oil pulling without spending much more time.

For example, whilst showering one could swish a small portion (say half a teaspoon) of Vegan tooth oil around the oral cavity for a couple of minutes. Whilst it’s better to swish for between two to five minutes, an effective oral cleansing can be done in a couple of minutes with Vegan Tooth Oil.

Once the Vegan Tooth Oil has combined with saliva into a solution (usually a milky coloured emulsion) that’s an indication that the microbes an bacteria have combined and are ready for removal to complete our oral detox.

However, it’s not just when showering when we can undertake oral cleansing . Anytime we have a couple of minutes, e.g.. watching a movie, we can swish around a portion of Vegan Tooth Oil knowing with confidence that we are well on the road to better oral cleansing and oral detox.
