Monopoly is probably the most popular and famous board game in the world, the aim of the game is to buy property and make money from that property. In Monopoly the spaces on the board are taken up by the different locations so that if you land on a certain location and no-one owns it you can buy it, if someone else does own it you will have to pay them money and that is how the game works, your aim is to get as much property as possible and make as much money as you can from that property. There are many variations of the Monopoly board game, the traditional Monopoly was based on London but there are now several others such as Disney, The Simpsons and Star Wars, you can also buy limited edition Monopoly sets that offer a higher quality board and pieces than the standard Monopoly set.

Trivial Pursuit is a classic board game that has been popular for may years, it features trivia questions on many subjects and will test the general knowledge of all players. There are also many special versions of Trivial Pursuit available including Star Wars, Disney, The Lord Of The Rings and a special DVD version that features movie clips, sound clues and headline stories to accompany the questions, Trivial Pursuit is a great board game which can be played by all of the family.

Twister is also a very popular game that is not really a board game but always gets listed with the other board games, with Twister up to four people have to stay upright on a mat with coloured dots. There is a pointer that is spun which tells the person where they have to place a hand or a foot, they then have to move the specific hand or foot to that colour. This gets very tricky as people have limbs all over the place trying to get to the right colour for their go, if a players falls then they are out. Twister is lots of fun and very popular with kids, Twister is also great for parties as it is a very fun game.

Operation is a great family game where the aim of the game is to remove organs from the patient without touching the actual patient, you have a few tools to do this such as tweezers with which you have to try to remove the plastic organs from the patient, if you fail there will be a buzzer sound and the patients nose will light up! Operation requires a very steady hand and nerves of steel so is allot of fun, Operation is another game that is better played with more people and is also great for parties.

Buckaroo is a funny game that involves trying to load a mule with as many items as possible, at some stage the mule will give way and toss all of the items from it’s back. So Buckaroo is a game of balance and light tough, the person who causes the mule to flip is the looser. Buckaroo is another game that is better with more people playing it, the suspense is unbearable when the there are lots of items on it’s back and everyone is expecting it to flip when they add to the weight.

Guess Who is a classic board game that involves identifying a person using the process of elimination. Guess Who has lots of cards with pictures of people on them and the Guess Who game is for two players, each player then takes turns asking questions about the other players person on the card. As they ask questions they can eliminate people on their board which flip down as they are eliminated, for example one player could ask if the other persons character has blond hair and if they do they knock down all of the characters on their board that do not have blond hair. Both players keep doing this until the point where one player only has one character left so knows who the other players character is, if a player is quite a way behind they can guess the character of the other player from the characters they have left.

Cranium is a very popular game that features original questions and skill tests, it involves 14 different activities including sculpting, drawing, acting and other creative skills as well as the answering trivia questions. There is also a children’s version of Cranium called Cadoo which offers the same sculpting, drawing and acting but is easier to play, there is also a family version that focuses of team based activities. All thee versions of Cranium offer great family fun with creative responses necessary, when playing as a family you will have to think of the youngest players that will be playing and buy the version of Cranium to suit.

Scene It? is a very advanced board game that uses DVD’s to play, it was the first board game to use DVD’s and needs a DVD player and a television to play. The Scene It? board game uses the DVD for movie clips and trivia that are associated with the questions, there are also special versions of the Scene It? board game for popular films such as James Bond and Harry Potter. These are great if you are a big fan of Harry Potter or James Bond, the general Scene It? board game is a top choice for general movie fans.

Scrabble is also a very popular board game with lots of history, the aim of the game is to make words from your allocated letters on the scrabble board. You get more points for using more unusual letters so the person that uses the better letters wins, there is also a junior scrabble that is easier to play and so better for children. There is also a The Simpsons version of Scrabble which features the Simpsons characters and also has special The Simpsons rules, this version of scrabble is very popular among children and The Simpsons fans.

Uno Extreme is a great board game that is all about getting rid of your cards, the main unit holds the cards and throws cards in your direction if you have to collect more. You start with a certain number of cards and then take it in turns to put one down, the problem is that you can only put a card down if your card matches the card’s colour at the top of the pile, if it does not then you have to press the button and get a whole new load of cards! There are also special cards in Uno Extreme that allow you to force other people to press the button to get more cards or change the colour of the top card that the next person has to put down, all of this makes for a very interesting game.

Pictionary is a very traditional board game that is lots of fun, the game is played by one person drawing pictures and the other players having to guess what the picture is. The other players get a clue at the start which tells them what subject the Pictionary picture is in, the players then guess what the picture is and the team that get it right get to throw the dice for the next turn.
